I'll start by saying that I will almost undoubtedly be unable to keep up the pace of these posts for ever. At the moment I'm still riding the "high" of starting a new brand. We will see how long that holds up.

Last night, my girlfriend and I traded our anniversary gifts, so I received my first set of Philips Hue bulbs! I have to say that I am loving them so far. We picked up the set of white bulbs (non-ambiance edition) and it was a lot of fun sitting down in my office with them on "nightlight" setting and playing my PC while my RGB LEDs did their thing. I am one of those people who don't really like light too much, but I am also--unfortunately--the type of person who enjoys seeing things. Having the hue bulbs set to their lowest setting is the perfect amount of light to allow some essential functions, while still allowing the RGB LEDs on the rear of my desk to light up behind the monitors beautifully.

That said, the bulbs are certainly not perfect. At $70 US, we mostly paid for the hub, which is something I didn't want to do myself, but since it was a gift, I figured it was a good way to get that in my hands to allow some color ambiance bulbs into my setup down the line. The other problem I have with the bulbs is that the Hub has to be connected directly to my router which is placed quite far from my office. Being that far away has apparently caused the bulbs to drop out of range periodically. Last night I spent about 5-10 minutes sitting in my office attempting to get the bulbs to dim on my phone. The app kept saying that they were disconnected, so I had no functionality outside of the straight, warm white light.

All-in-all, the bulbs are a welcome addition to my office. I am excited to have the ability to dim the lights in my room on a schedule or directly from my phone. I am also looking forward to keeping an eye out for deals on the Philips Hue Color Ambiance bulbs, which will allow me to add even more RGB goodness to my office (I love color!). If you have the money or a gift worthy celebration coming up, the Hue White A19 starter kit is definitely a worthy contender for your wishlist!
